local & global outreach initiatives:
- Africa Yoga Project | Yoga Jams Events that use the transformative power of yoga to empower communities and change lives. By inspiring the global yoga community into active service, we deliver effective and innovative programs that foster peace, improve physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing, facilitate self-sufficiency, and create opportunities to learn and contribute across the communities of East Africa.
- Playground Builders When I first met Kirby Brown he was teaching snowboarding for Whistler Blackcomb, now he's heading into war torn countries facilitating play for the young ones. Brave hearts.
- For three years I led Annual Yoga & Surfing Retreats at Los Cardones Eco Surf Lodge in Nicaragua. I as well as other yogi friends of mine lead Yoga & Surfing Retreats here. There is an initiative to engage in art projects in the local school there, a 30 minute horseback ride from Los Cardones. One of the retreaters, Vesna Young taught the kids how to spin poi from the recycled garbage we had them collect and then make into poi. We taught the kids Yoga and had them draw each other in their various poses. Dagan Beach took pictures and from that created a slide show event in Whistler to raise funds to supply the school with art supplies. Julia McCabe and Kim Slater have raised awareness for the Sea Turtle habitat there as well.
- Squamish Can is a community action group dedicated to climate change initiatives in Squamish.
